The Pan African Network Group (PANG) is leading the launch of a Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Pilot Project in Kakuma Ward, Turkana County, aiming to enhance digital accessibility and broaden the scope of broadcasting in Kenya.
The initiative, backed by the Universal Service Fund (USF) and managed by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), targets underserved areas where the growth of commercial broadcasting has been restricted due to high infrastructure expenses.
County officials conducted a stakeholder engagement meeting last week with representatives from the national government, education leaders, local authorities, and community members to evaluate the project’s implementation strategy and its potential economic effects.
At the event, Tamima Ibrahim, General Manager of Pan African Network Group (PANG), remarked that the pilot represents considerable advancement in improving broadcast signal distribution to emerging markets.
“Funding infrastructure in developing areas like Turkana provides long-lasting benefits for the whole broadcasting network.” “Tamima said adding that enhancing signal coverage establishes a foundation for better content accessibility, increased advertising possibilities, and heightened participation in the digital economy.”
She highlighted that the initiative aims to advance local economic growth by enhancing access to free television, facilitating information sharing, broadening educational opportunities, and strengthening connectivity.
She remarked that when operational, the DTT pilot is expected to offer residents more than 500 television and radio services, greatly improving access to news, educational materials, government information, and public service programming
