Kenyan US-based promoter Bernice Saroni has shared a deeply personal throwback post on social media about choosing her peace over polygamy. She revealed that ”marriage battles” began when she made a decision to say no to polygamy.
According to Bernice, the decision was not easy to make since it came with finncial consequences.
At the time, her three sons were enrolled at an international school costing half a million per term. Managing to raise that school fees on her own became unsustainable.
That being the case, she transferred the children to a more affordable option.
But the transition was tough for her sons since they needed to learn Swahili and adapt to copying notes from the board, something completely new to them. Bernicestated that it broke her heart watching her sons struggle and lag behind the rest of their classmates. On her Facebook page, she noted,
”When the marriage battles started, I said NO to polygamy.
It wasn’t an easy decision, but peace mattered more than titles.
At the time, my boys were in St. Christopher’s. An international school for three kids was 550,000 per term a cost I could no longer afford alone.
With a heavy heart, I moved them to St. Hannah’s Karen, a place I could manage.
The transition was not easy at all.My boys had to learn Swahili, a language they didn’t know. They had to copy notes from the board , something they were not used to.They were always behind, struggling to catch up. It broke my heart as a mother. But God Guess what? My Dr. Miguel became number 1.”
Bernice celebrated her son’s academic tunaround and thanked her teachers for their patience during the tough times when school fees was paid. She described her journey to be of resilience and faith and further encouraged other single mothers to remain strong since the journey is not easy.
