The Kenyan football community is in mourning following the passing of AFC Leopards Secretary General, Gilbert Andugu.

According to his family, Andugu died earlier today in Kitengela, where he had been hospitalized since the beginning of the month.

His death has been described as a significant loss to both the club and the broader football fraternity.

AFC Leopards confirmed the news via a statement on their official social media platforms, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of our Secretary General, Mr. Gilbert Andugu. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to his family, friends, and relatives,” read the statement.

A marketer by profession, Andugu began his journey with the club in 2015 as the head of the Mombasa branch.

He was instrumental in expanding the branch’s membership and played a pivotal role in financing the AFC Leopards Cubs, who went on to win the Nairobi Region League under his watch.

He succeeded Oliver Sikuku as Secretary General, following the completion of Sikuku’s constitutionally allowed two terms.

Prior to assuming the role, Andugu served as chairman of the branch heads, earning widespread respect for his organizational acumen and unwavering dedication to the club.

During his tenure as Secretary General, Andugu spearheaded key structural reforms, particularly within the club’s human resource department, which he helped streamline for greater efficiency.

His legacy is one of service, passion, and a deep commitment to the growth of AFC Leopards and Kenyan football at large.
