FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has ordered the relegation of Muhoroni Youth FC from the National Super League (NSL) to the FKF Division One League following their involvement in match-fixing.
In a statement issued Friday, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) confirmed it had received official communication from FIFA directing the demotion of the Awasi-based club, located in Kenya’s Nyanza region, as a disciplinary measure.
“Football Kenya Federation (FKF) confirms receipt of official communication from FIFA regarding the relegation of Muhoroni Youth Football Club to Division One, following their involvement in match manipulation,” the statement read.
The federation emphasized its commitment to eradicating match-fixing from Kenyan football, promising firm action against anyone found culpable.
“We are committed to working closely with FIFA and other relevant bodies to root out this vice from Kenyan football. The Federation will continue to cooperate with all stakeholders to ensure that individuals and teams involved in match-fixing face the full consequences of their actions, in accordance with FIFA and FKF regulations,” FKF stated.
FKF Secretary General Harold Ndege reiterated the federation’s tough stance, warning that those implicated will be held fully accountable.
“We are launching a full-scale war on match-fixing in collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and all relevant authorities. We cannot allow this vice to undermine the progress we are making to uplift the game. Anyone found culpable will face the full consequences of their actions,” said Ndege.
This announcement follows FKF’s provisional suspension of Harambee Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Patrick Matasi on March 27.
The veteran goalkeeper was suspended for 90 days after video evidence surfaced allegedly linking him to match-fixing, prompting an official investigation.
Muhoroni Youth FC, established in 2003, rose to the top-tier Kenyan Premier League in 2011.
The club enjoyed a major triumph in 2016, clinching the KPL Top Eight Cup after defeating Gor Mahia FC in a final held at Nyayo National Stadium.
However, after being relegated to the NSL on the final day of the 2024 season, they now face further demotion as evidence of match manipulation emerges.
