High Court rules against Malala in UDA leadership dispute

Former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala.

The High Court has upheld the removal of Cleophas Malala as Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In a ruling delivered on Monday, Justice Bahati Mwamuye overturned a decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) that had temporarily reinstated Malala.

The judge affirmed that the gazette notice formalizing Malala’s removal remains valid and legally binding.

“The 1st respondent’s appeal before the PPDT is hereby terminated and shall not proceed before the tribunal. Any orders previously issued in favor of the respondent are hereby vacated,” the court ruled.

In a further setback for Malala, the court also nullified all proceedings previously held before the PPDT, effectively blocking any attempt to contest his removal through that forum.
