Police in Awasi, Kisumu County, have arrested two women following a viral WhatsApp post featuring a firearm.

Sharon Auma and Nancy Atieno Obura were apprehended by detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau in collaboration with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nyando.

The arrest was triggered by a WhatsApp status update posted by Auma, in which she posed with a Canik pistol and issued a chilling warning: any man who dared dump her would face the consequences.

“This arrest follows a report received regarding Sharon Auma, who uploaded a photo of herself wielding a pistol, accompanied by a threatening message,” police said.

Detectives swiftly moved in and arrested Auma in Awasi town. During questioning, she revealed the firearm was kept at a two-bedroom rental house belonging to her friend, Nancy Atieno Obura.

A search of the premises uncovered the Canik pistol wrapped in clothing and hidden in a basin under the bed, along with an empty magazine. Officers also recovered a fake motorcycle number plate marked KMGG 805M.

Both suspects are in custody and are being processed ahead of their court appearance. Authorities say investigations are ongoing and more arrests may follow.
