The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has provisionally suspended Kenya’s Geoffrey Yegon after he tested positive for a banned substance.
According to a statement from the AIU, the 36-year-old athlete tested positive for triamcinolone acetonide, an oral medication commonly used by athletes to aid weight loss without significant power loss.
Yegon’s most recent race was on December 1 of last year, when he won the Singapore Marathon with a time of 2:16:06.
This victory marked his first win in seven years, since his triumph at the Goteborg Half Marathon in Sweden in May 2017, where he posted a time of 1:00:19.
Other notable wins for Yegon include the Venlo Half Marathon and the Hague City Half Marathon, both in 2016.
Yegon is now expected to respond to the charge, at which point the disciplinary process will begin.
