Lydia Tokesi, who had been missing for the past week, was discovered dead in Gataka Forest, Ongata Rongai.
Police responded to the scene after a woman’s body was found abandoned in the area.
She had been murdered and some body parts were missing.
Lydia’s family was notified and they confirmed indeed it was her, a graduate of Moi University.
While the family is confident that the body belongs to their loved one, they are requesting a DNA test to eliminate any doubts, given the advanced decomposition of the body and the missing body parts.
Initial investigations indicate that the body suffered severe trauma, suggesting Lydia was tortured before her death. Her killer appeared to have systematically mutilated her.
The family said they are waiting for DNA results to confirm the identity.
Joseph Philip Orwa, Lydia’s longtime boyfriend of more than eight years, has become a primary suspect.
Authorities discovered that Orwa invited Lydia to his home in Ongata Rongai, where the two stayed until January 4, when Lydia was reported missing.
Police later searched Orwa’s residence, recovering significant evidence, including several SIM cards, alcohol, Lydia’s clothes and shoes, as well as a love letter that hinted at ongoing relationship struggles.
Investigators are now analysing CCTV footage from the area and plan to question multiple individuals deemed persons of interest.
Lydia had reportedly taken out a bank loan to purchase a car for Orwa, who used it as a taxi.

After the crime, the vehicle was abandoned a few kilometers from Lydia’s parents’ home. The car was recovered with blood stains inside, but Orwa is still missing.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding Lydia’s tragic death.
