Two nurses from Ngara Medical Center in Nairobi have been charged after allegedly assaulting police officers who were investigating the clinic’s licenses.
Jonah Kipsiror Marori and Ephraim Mwaura Karumbi face accusations of operating the facility without proper licenses and attacking officers with acid.
Marori is accused of causing grievous harm to Police Constables Tom Mbuku, Joyce Otieno, and Moses Lelei last Monday, when he allegedly used acid to inflict bodily harm on the officers at Ngara Road Medical Center.
In addition to the assault charges, the nurses are also facing charges related to operating an unlicensed pharmacy and possessing Part 1 poisons at an unregistered premises.
Both defendants denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben-Mark Ekhubi.
The prosecution told the court they did not oppose the nurses’ release on bail, but recommended bond with surety instead of cash bail.
The court heard that the officers suffered chemical burns to their faces, hands, and ribs due to the acid attack.
Marori was granted a bond of Sh 600,000 with one surety of the same amount, while Karumbi was granted a bond of Sh 300,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh 200,000.
The pre-trial hearing is set for January 16 next year.
