Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has voiced concerns that Kenyans are feeling overwhelmed under President William Ruto’s administration, citing excessive taxation and failing public services, particularly in healthcare.
During a church service in Kiambu County on Sunday, Gachagua called on the congregation to pray for Ruto, who recently appointed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President.
“We urge Kenyans to remain peaceful and pray for President William Ruto as he confronts the nation’s challenges. Many are feeling helpless due to economic difficulties, high taxes, and declining health systems, and the President has a significant responsibility ahead,” Gachagua stated.
“We hope for prayers that God grants him wisdom so the people of Kenya can find relief.”
His comments followed a previous expression of frustration with Ruto, where he accused the President of betrayal and expressed shock at the turn of events after having supported him.
After being discharged from Karen Hospital, where he was treated during the parliamentary vote that led to his impeachment, Gachagua remarked, “If anything happens to me or my family, President Ruto must be held accountable.”
In Kiambu, he was joined by Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa (Kiambu) and fellow senators John Methu (Nyandarua) and Joe Nyutu (Murang’a), as well as several MPs, including Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri) and Njeri Maina (Kirinyaga Woman Rep).
The gathering also included MCAs from Kiambu, Murang’a, and Kirinyaga, along with former Kakamega Senator Cleopas Malala and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
