Rising Stars match against Tanzania.

Rising Stars secured their first three points at AFCON U20 CECAFA qualifiers campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tanzania in Group A.

The opening match, held at the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday displayed Kenya’s determination to qualify for the continental contest.

Breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when Kevin Wanganya unleashed a free kick from just outside the box.

The well-placed strike sailed past Tanzania’s goalkeeper, giving Kenya a well-deserved lead.

This moment of brilliance boosted the team’s confidence, but despite continued pressure from the team, Kenya went into halftime with only a one-goal advantage.

The second half saw Kenya extend their lead. In the 67th minute, Andres Odhiambo delivered a stunning long-range shot that doubled the Rising Stars’ advantage, making it 2-0.

However, Tanzania quickly responded in the 76th minute when Rahim Mkinyange found the back of the net.

Kenya now leads Group A but awaits the outcome of the second group match to determine their final standing after the first round of matches.

The team now shifts focus to their next fixture against Rwanda on Thursday at KMC Stadium.

Kenya has never qualified for a continental place in youth tournaments.

The top two finishers at the CECAFA U20 Championships will qualify for the AFCON U20.
