Former Ulinzi Stars captain promoted to coach Kenya Navy FC

Hassan ‘Rio’ Mohammed taking over the Navy FC.

The former Mathare United player and Ulinzi Stars captain Hassan ‘Rio’ Mohammed has been appointed the head coach of Kenya Navy FC.

Mohammed was promoted from Ulinzi Star’s technical bench where he served as a fitness coach and trainer.

Kenya Navy FC serves as a feeder system to FKF Premier League club Ulinzi Stars, the primary football team of the Kenyan military.

The club announced the appointment last week.

“We are excited to announce and welcome our new head coach, Hassan Mohammed… Welcome home, Rio,” the statement read.

Ulinzi Stars, the senior team welcome Mohammed, describing him thus.

“A huge congratulations to our former captain, Mohammed Hassan ‘Rio,’ on his new role as head coach for Kenya Navy FC! Your leadership, dedication, and passion on the field have always been an inspiration, and we have no doubt you will bring the same excellence to your new role,” they said.

‘Rio’, a military officer has spent time away in African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), a peacekeeping mission.
