The High Court has reinstated the Jubilee party leadership to the faction led by Jeremiah Kioni.

Justice Janet Mulwa nullified the decision by the EALA MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege-led faction to remove Vice-Chairman David Murathe, Secretary-General Kioni and Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi.

In the party, Kioni led the offshoot loyal to the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta while Sabina and Kega camp is aligned to the incumbent President William Ruto.

Court overturned the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) that allowed the Kega and Kanini faction take over leadership of the party.

Now Kioni and businessman Murathe will continue functioning as the party’s leaders.

“The majority decision by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal is an erroneous finding issued by the commissioners and must be disturbed at this stage. I find that the decision of the PPDT illegal and Annulity,” Justice Mulwa stated.

The judge however declined to hold Kega, Sabina, and Joshua Kutuny in contempt for continuing to perform Jubilee functions.

Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege.

“The court finds no merit in the application to find Kega, Sabina, and Kutuny in contempt. The three applications by the appellants are dismissed and each party to bear its own cost,” she ruled.

She also found the party’s National Executive Committee meeting held on February 10, 2023 illegal, as it contravened the party’s constitution.

She declared that any resolutions resulting from that meeting are null and void.
