National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa has confirmed he is among the 300 MPs who have signed the motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking in his Kikuyu sub-county, Ichung’wa revealed plan to send the DP home is not a hearsay.
He said he appended his signature to the motion, sponsored by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, to stop a process where the government is being undermined and sabotaged from within.
“It is true there is an impeachment motion against the Deputy President. As the MP for Kikuyu, I have read the motion and appended my signature and I will vote yes” he said.
He said the government is focussed on fulfilling promises made during campaigns not politicking.
He accused Gachagua of propagating ethnic-based politics and trying to pull Kikuyus out of the government to form new political coalitions with Kalonzo Musyoka, George Wajackoyah, and Eugene Wamalwa.
“They want us to abandon what we built so that others can benefit.” Ichung’wa cautioned is constituents.
The impeachment motion which requires a threshold of 117 signatures by MPs is expected to be tabled in the Parliament on Tuesday.
It must gain the support of 233 MPs before being passed on to the Senate.
On Friday Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya said they had collected 300 signatures.
