National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa has refuted claims there is an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Ichung’wa while setting the record straight said the purported motion is just a creation of Gachagua and his allies.
“There has never been any impeachment motion against the DP. It is just a sympathy seeking gimmick to incite Mt Kenya region against the MPs” Ichung’wa told journalists while in in Alego Usonga Siaya County.
Adding; “Probably he is calling for it. I do not know. He might be calling for it”.

He faulted Gachagua for threatening Kenyans with claims that an impeachment would cause political instability.
The Kikuyu MP likened the threat to the incident on June 25 when the Parliament was invaded and vandalised by angry youths.
“He passed a veiled threat to Kenyans when he said that even an impeachment motion would cause political instability. What he actually meant is that there would be instability like that on June 25 this year” Ichung’wa said.

He vowed to defend the rights of all MPs saying nobody including the President or DP should ever imagine they can intimidate legislators from doing what they ought to.
Wile telling Gachagua to desist from making such uproars, Ichung’wa said impeachments motions are part of Parliament’s oversight of state officers and that President and DP are no exception.
“If any MP brings an impeachment motion against any leader, whether the president, deputy president or any other state officer, we shall give it a consideration based on merit. If they merit, the House will debate and make a decision through voting,” he said.
