No plans to remove sniffer dogs from Lamu roads-Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has defended the use of sniffer dogs in tackling terrorism bedevilling Lamu county.

Gachagua said it was possible to withdraw the dogs from roadblocks after Lamu county Woman rep Shakilla Mohammed requested their removal claiming they were inconveniencing Muslims.

” I have heard the request of Ms. Shakilla Abdallah, but I want to inform you that it will not be possible to remove the sniffer dogs on our roads. Let’s give our officers time to ensure that there is safety. Those sniffer dogs are doing a good job to detect explosives.  That is the only option we have for now, he insisted.” Gachagua said.

Gachagua spoke at Muungano Grounds n Mpeketoni during the burial service of the late Lamu deputy governor Raphael Munyua.

He pledged that the government will continue securing Lamu County against insecurity such as insurgencies of terrorism.

“Lamu County has for a long time been a battle ground for terrorists. They have had their time but now and moving forward, it will not be business as usual. They will get it rough because our security agencies are on their case” he said.

He called for harmonious existence of communities living there.

He was accompanied by area governor Issa Timmamy, his Mombasa counterpart Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir, PS investment promotion Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, and area Senator Joseph Githuku.

Also present were political leaders from Tana River, Murang’a, Machakos, Kajiado, West Pokot, Nairobi, Kilifi counties.
