New dalliance between President William Ruto and his erstwhile political rival Raila Odinga has reached crescendo with the two flying together to Beijing China yesterday.

Few months ago, the two could not see eye to eye but now they are working together on move to benefit them symbiotically.

Ruto is attending China-Africa Cooperation Summit but he tagged along Raila so they could seek backing for the former’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson seat.

The summit starting tomorrow to Friday is expected to be attended by all the African heads of states except the Kingdom of Eswatini formerly known as Swaziland.

The two want to capitalise on the summit to convince the presidents to vote for Raila.

Raila is contesting the seat against Djibouti Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssou, former Mauritius Foreign Minister Anil Kumarsingh Gayan and Richard James Randriamandrato, a former Madagascar Foreign Minister.

Besides the AUC business, Ruto is to pursue multi-million-dollar agreements with China, focusing on infrastructure and trade.

According to State House, one of Ruto’s top priorities is a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of cooperation.
