A dozen people perished in a grisly accident last night at Nithi bridge black spot on the Meru-Embu highway.
It involved a Toyota Hiace van which was heading to Nairobi and a pickup heading Meru.
It is said the van driver was not familiar with the road and as he was descending a slope, he veered off the other side and collided with the oncoming pickup.
He was ferrying a group of people coming from a parental blessing event in Meru.
Tharaka Nithi police commander Zacheous Ng’eno said 10 adults and two children succumbed to injuries.

Two survivors were rushed to hospital.
At the same scene, a Toyota Sienta driver rammed into a truck that had stalled there.
In April four people were killed after a Nairobi-bound Kensilver bus rolled at this Nithi bridge.
In July 2022, a Modern Coast bust heading to Mombasa from Meru plunged into River Nithi under this same bridge and killed 34 people.
About 50 people have been killed at this black spot from July 2022.
